He would have fed them also with the finest of wheat; and with honey from the rock I would have satisfied you.”
13 “He made him ride in the heights of the earth, that he might eat the produce of the fields; He made him draw honey from the rock, and oil from the flinty rock…
Dear Friends and Family,
I hope you all enjoyed Father’s Day with your families and the celebration of our nations birth on the 4th of July.
This month we will conclude the teaching on Absalom will destroy you – the dangers of holding on to unrepented sin.
We ended last month with an admonition to release those sins to God. Let’s resume our teaching for this month: It’s our sins that caused Jesus to die the horrible death he did. Turn your Absalom over to God before it destroys you. Don’t play with it, nurse it, treat it kindly, or feel sorry for having to get rid of it. Do you know what happened when David turned Absalom over to God?
2 Samuel 18:9
“Now Absalom happened to meet the servants of David. For Absalom was riding on his mule, and the mule went under the thick branches of a great oak. And his head caught fast in the oak so he was left hanging between heaven and earth while the mule that was under him kept going.” NAS
The hair he worshipped hung him in a tree. The hair that caused him so much pride was now the source of his death, and the servants of David came and thrust a spear through him and buried him in a deep pit and put stones on him. The servants of the anointed are the angels. They will come and take your sin and destroy it, throw it in a field of forgetfulness and cover it over never to be remembered again. After you repent turn away from and give that sin to God, how do you keep from falling again? Temptation will always be with you. The answer is:
“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.” NAS
How do you walk in the Spirit? How do you keep in the Spirit? There’s only one way – keep your spirit saturated in the Word of God. It washes and cleanses you. It keeps your mind tuned to His voice.
How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Thy Word. With all my heart I have sought Thee; do not let me wander from Thy Commandments. Thy Word have I treasured in my heart that I may not sin against Thee.
The word will cleanse your way. When you sin you don’t want to go near the Word. Saturating yourself in the Word will cause you to hate sin. We will still sin, but not willfully. We will still make mistakes, but we’ll truly repent. We will still struggle with thoughts and feelings, but we will STOP and apply the Word not allowing them entrance to our minds and hearts.
1 John says that if we say we don’t sin we’re liars. This was written to Christians God isn’t looking for people who never slip up – look at David whom he called a man after his own heart in the midst of his sin. God sent Jesus because he already knew that it was impossible for us NOT to sin. We have a fallen nature, and even after we’re born again, that nature has to go through the process of being transformed into the new man. Through the Holy Spirit He’s given us a way to walk victoriously without condemnation. That way is the Word of God and true repentance. It’s the WORD that renews your mind enabling you to be transformed. We have to get rid of our old ways of thinking and our old habits and begin to assimilate the mind of Christ. With our old minds we can’t possibly walk free of the sin nature. The Lord tells us to forsake unrighteousness and choose life! It’s our choice. He made His choice – He chose to die for you so that you COULD have the choice to change. Now you have to make your choice – obey Him or obey self! Feed your spirit or feed your flesh.
Psalm 40:2-4 & 11
He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay; and He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm. And He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; many will see and fear, and will trust in the LORD. How blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust and has not turned to the proud nor to those who lapse into falsehood….. Thou, O LORD wilt not withhold Thy compassion from me; Thy lovingkindness and Thy truth will continually preserve me. (NAS)
Trust in God to keep you from falling. Cling to His Word, Cling to Him, for He is life and He paid a great price to give His life to you!
This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curses. Now choose life so that you and your children may live. and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to His voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life……..(NIV)
Flee from sin with all that’s in you!
Next month we will be starting a new series on discipline and self-control.
